DESCRIPTION

Rio Tinto was in the process of commissioning and deploying their new project - the world's first fully autonomous, long distance, heavy-haul railway system.

As part of this project, it was critical that their personnel were adequately trained and aware of the changes to the physical train as well as the operational processes involved.

Sentient took on this challenge by developing immersive and engaging training applications, including a driver familiarisation module to introduce the physical changes and additions to the locomotives, alighting and boarding the locomotive training module, and a Work Management System that digitised their installation processes.

WHAT THE USERS THOUGHT

Work Management System - Site QA Manager:

"Sentient's software has helped us save over a thousand hours of loco installation time. Using our standard software, it would have taken weeks to properly implement any changes to our procedures. The generated reports allowed us to quickly ascertain which tasks had not been completed, and this would not have been possible using our standard approach."

Driver Familiarisation module:

One bit of feedback we heard from the users was "Why didn't we get this earlier?", as the familiarisation module was far more powerful and insightful than their previous training materials.

ROLE

I was the Project Manager and also Lead Developer for the Driver Familiarisation module, and Boarding / Alighting training modules, working alongside one 3D Artist.

I was also the Lead UI Developer for the Work Management System.
